Bicycle Mechanic
Volunteer bicycle mechanics complete minor bicycle repairs for Hope’s Corner guests. Our Bicycle Program is a vital service because many of our guests use their bicycle as their main form of transportation. Volunteer bicycle mechanics make a big impact by repairing bicycles that allow our guests to get around independently. The bicycle program volunteers help on Saturday mornings 8am-11am.
Volunteer bicycle mechanics should meet the following criteria:
Basic bicycle repair knowledge and the ability to:
Replace and/or repair flat tires
Adjust brakes and drivetrains
Clean and lube chain and gear cables.
Comfortable interacting with guests of all cultures, ages and backgrounds in a culturally competent and sensitive manner.
Commitment to volunteering at least one Saturday per month.
Ability to stand/walk, climb stairs, reach/work above shoulders, lift, carry objects that weigh up to 30 pounds, bend, stoop, squat, kneel.
Ability to work in an outdoor program area with exposure to various temperatures and weather conditions
